Short description: Optimization of matte-black surface coatings through quality analysis and process insourcing at Dormakaba Austria GmbH.

Project description:

The project focuses on the analysis and optimization of the matte-black surface coating used in door components at Dormakaba Austria GmbH. Currently, the black coating on rotary knobs, applied in-house, suffers from adhesion issues resulting in customer complaints. Additionally, the coating of the strike plate is outsourced. The project aims to identify root causes for the quality issues through defect analysis and standardized surface tests (e.g., cross-cut, scratch tests). Alternative coating methods such as powder coating or DLC will be evaluated. Furthermore, the feasibility of insourcing the strike plate coating will be analyzed from both technical and economic perspectives. Standardized quality assurance procedures and optimized internal processes will be defined and implemented. The goal is to enhance surface durability and establish a consistent, high-quality internal coating process.
