Short description: Through making a 3D model, packaging, and research, we showed how aquaponics can offer a cleaner, smarter way to produce fish.
Project description:
What if the fish on your plate came from a closed-loop, sustainable system just a few kilometers away? Our project rethinks fish production through aquaponics which is an innovative method combining fish farming and plant cultivation. We designed eye-catching packaging for aquaponics-based fish products to spread more awareness about aquaponics and make it more appealing for a customer. For people who want to buy an aquaponic system we build a 3D-printed model of both the system and a possible network layout. To understand its real-world potential, we compared different fish supply chains using key metrics like CO₂ emissions and transportation distances—ranging from globally sourced fish to hyper-local Austrian production. Finally, we took a closer look at greenwashing in the fish industry, uncovering misleading sustainability claims and highlighting the importance of honest, transparent practices.
